Fourplay is Spreading across the Land…

by on Sep.28, 2012, under News

On a visit to Chiang Mai, one could end up at the Airport Central Plaza.  The Plaza is a 5 story mall with virtually everything one can imagine.

In the midst of the mall we heard music.  It wasn’t Thai though.  It was something familiar, and we knew it.  Following the sounds we ended up at the Lana Tourism exhibit, where music was being played by a DJ in between performances.  The DJ was a man of few words, but what he was playing spoke loud and clear…Fourplay

Soul Tracks the pulse of ‘Esprit de Four’

by on Sep.27, 2012, under Press &Reviews

Esprit De Four, the 12th release by the jazz quartet Fourplay, is a quiet and confident recording. The confidence can be viewed in light of the fact that pianist Bob James, drummer Harvey Mason, bassist/vocalist Nathan East and guitarist Chuck Loeb never seem to feel the need to raise the volume of their music to compete with performers who often feel the need to scream. Critical Jazz breaks down Fourplay’s ‘Esprit de Four’

by on Sep.26, 2012, under Press &Reviews

Fourplay is one of those amazing groups that only seems to improve with age and despite numerous changes in the bands line up over the years.

Esprit De Four is their latest and for me perhaps their finest release in their storied career. This is the second release featuring guitarist Chuck Loeb with the fascinating aspect that the band made the necessary adjustments to fit his sound and the unique and harmonious symmetry continues without interruption but instead a fresh perspective.
