Stevie Wonder and Steely Dan’s Michael McDonald are among a host of guest stars to feature on the new record…

Daft Punk bassist Nathan East has announced plans for his first solo album.

East has recruited a host of guest stars including Stevie Wonder, American singer Sara Bareilles and Steely Dan’s Michael McDonald to work on the record. He has previously worked with all the artists on their own projects along with Eric Clapton and Beyonce.

He told Billboard: “It’s a celebration of my musical friends and my musical life over 30 years’ worth of experiences and influences. The one thing I’ve learned is that I love a collaborative effort, the spirit of making music with a lot of great musicians in the room.”

Produced by East and Yamaha Entertainment founder Chris Gero, the album will feature a mix of original tracks and covers from East’s work in R&B, pop, rock and jazz, including Wonder’s ‘Sir Duke’, Pat Metheny’s ‘Letter From Home’ and ‘101 Eastbound’ by Fourplay, who East is a founding member of. East revealed that he is also hoping to rope in Clapton play on a cover of ‘Can’t Find My Way Home’. The album will also feature Core feature keyboardist Jeff Babko from the Jimmy Kimmel Live show and Toto’s David Paich. East is also in talks to create an accompanying documentary about the process of making the album.

Speaking about his work on Daft Punk’s ‘Random Access Memories’ and hit single ‘Get Lucky’ he added: “That blew up bigger than I ever could have imagined. When I walked into the studio, they had all these vintage keyboards and tape machines spinning in the back of the room. And the first thing they said was, ‘We want to go retro.’ It was cool that they thought enough of me and, of course, Nile Rodgers and Paul Jackson Jr. for this. The funk was just jumping off the tape. You couldn’t hold it back.”
